Artist Bio
Angel and Ariel Gilbert are twins majoring in African-American Studies at Columbia College. Given their lived experience with the prison industrial complex, they are very passionate about abolitionist activism. Currently Angel is an intern with The ACLU on their National Prison Project, and Ariel conducts research at Rikers Island with The Center for Justice. However, the two of them have always recognized the significance of storytelling, which is why they were thrilled to bridge the gap between traditional research and black creativity in “The Pendulum Swing of a Baton.”
